Recently I was at the Superior Court in Dedham (lest you’re wondering; I was there to give an invocation for the annual Law Day ceremony). Of course, as a rabbi, I was taken around to meet the various judges, especially the Jewish ones. And one of the judges told me the following story.
He was sent a large file as an attachment to an email and he was not able to open the file. So he did what any of us would do, he called his 12 year old grandson. The grandson told his grandfather that it was too complicated for him but that later in the week when he had the chance he would go to his grandfather’s house to open it for him.
Thank you to all who attended the annual congregational meeting and installation of officers. At the meeting, one of the announcement I made was that we would soon be opening a new website. We’ve selected a website developer and are busy getting it ready. I hope to see it “live” before our new TBA Community Day on August 15. Please be sure to save that date and join us for a memorable event. The Community Day is for all and is especially open to prospective members. So please invite anyone you think may be interested in TBA.
The three-week period leading up to Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the month of Av, started on June 28 (the 17th of Tammuz) and signifies a time of mourning for the Jewish people. These days are sometimes referred to as the period “within the straits” (bein hametzarim), in accordance with the verse: “all her oppressors have overtaken her within the straits” (Lamentations 1:3). These were the days when both the First and Second Temples were destroyed; other calamities have befallen our people during these days as well.
